This pick needs to address the defense. You can really go any route here, but with Wade Phillips as the DC, you can probably expect a hybrid DE/OLB to be taken. Either Von Miller (TAMU) or Akeem Ayers (UCLA) will be the most likely pick here. If both are available, it may come down to who has the most impressive Combine (although Miller could help/ hurt himself in the Senior Bowl if he plays).
Edit: Well, neither of the two players that I pegged here earlier is going to be the pick (Ayers is now a reach while Miller won't drop this far... and may get pick up as early as #3). The defense is still the priority, however.
CB- Patrick Peterson would be a great addition, but he's in the same boat as Von Miller (going to be gone by this point). Prince Amukamara is more of a question to be around here; if he is, then he may be the pick. Any other CB would be a reach here.
Front 7- The switch to a 3-4 scheme is going to require a change in personnel along the D-line. A true NT can be taken later on (Jerrell Powe or Kendrick Ellis in Round 2 or 3?), but none really jump out at this point. As for the DE hybrid position, there are several options: Robert Quinn (UNC), Aldon Smith (Missouri) would be good pick-ups for the hybrid position, while JJ Watt (Wisconsin), and Cameron Jordon (Cal) would work as pure 3-4 DEs.
Really, the Texans have about 5 solid options if they stay at this spot.
